Eagerly anticipated Brett Morgen's CROSSFIRE HURRICANE, a kaleidoscopic new film on the Rolling Stones, documenting key periods in their career and their incredible adventures premiered at the Odeon Leicester Square on Thursday evening as part of the World Premiere Gala. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood, along with director Brett Morgen gave red carpet interviews in support of the gala. Attendees of the evening included Jagger’s ex-wife model Jerry Hall, actor Colin Firth and producer Rebecca Wang. Producer Rebecca Wang said “I'm excited to be here tonight. As a long term supporter of the artistic expression, I’m thrilled to be attending the London Film Festival".
The World Premiere Gala on 18th of October broadcast live to over 20 cinemas across the UK, enabling viewers to simultaneously enjoy all red carpet coverage in addition to the film.
The documentary premieres as the Stones, one of rock and roll's biggest bands celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2012, a half century which has seen them transition from young R&B enthusiasts at the start of the Sixties and in the infancy of the rock music industry, through to their standing today as venerated rock royalty.
This year's BFI London Film Festival, which runs from 10th -21st October, aims to develop cinema audiences across the UK. Speaking of the securing the documentary, Claire Stewart, the Director of the festival and BFI's Head of Exhibitions and Distribution said "It is a big deal for the LFF. The film itself is stunning and not only is it a real testament to Brett's skill as a filmmaker, but it is also an incredible account of the Stones over 50 years."
The BFI event opened with the Euro premiere of Tim Burton's 3D animation FRANKENWEENEE, while his partner Helena Bonham- Carter will close the festival in Mike Newell's production of GREAT EXPECTATIONS. The pair will receive special fellowship awards on October 20th. Other films that have already been aired as part of the festival include HYDE PARK ON HUDSON starring Bill Murray whose other recent films include Passion Play, executive produced by Rebecca Wang.
The festival's programme will for the first time, be split into nine themed strands: love, debate, dare, laugh, thrill, cult, journey, sonic and family, each with its own gala screening. Galas include Michael Haneke's Cannes Palme d'Or winner AMOUR in the love section, with Mira Nair's THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST in dare, Ben Wheatley's SIGHTSEERS in laugh, Bollywood action film CHAKRAVYUH in thrill, and Graham Chapman's biopic A LIAR'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY is in cults.
The festival promises an international line-up of over 225 features, including 14 world premieres, and the line-up of celebrity guests include Ralph Fiennes, Jane Campion, Ang Lee and Marian Cottillard.
